Parent of a young person
As the parent of a young person, you know that
at certain times they need to make important choices. Choices
that can greatly affect their later life. For example, which subjects
to take in Years 11 and 12. Which tertiary course to enter. Or
which job to apply for when they finish school.
Unfortunately, many (maybe even most!) young people
don't know what they want to do for a career. Fortunately, Career
Discovery can help.
Knowledge is the key
To choose an appropriate educational path or to get started in
a satisfying career, young people often need help in two areas.
First, they need to understand their skills, preferences
and motivations. They need insights into questions such as "What
are my special talents?", "What career am I suited to?" and "What
would I enjoy doing?".
Second, they need to understand more about the
world of work. They need answers to questions such as "What's
involved in this occupation?", "What are the prospects?", "What
qualifications will I need?" and "How do I go about getting into
this occupation?"
Career Discovery will work with your son or daughter
to help them understand themselves and the world of work. This
will help them make better decisions and help set them on the
path to a rewarding, satisfying career.
As a parent you can rest easy, knowing your children
will be happier and well suited to their chosen occupation.
